Manchester United return to the scene of their last great drama in the UEFA Champions League when they begin this season’s competition with a visit to Paris Saint-Germain in Group H.
In what’s largely considered to be this term’s “Group of Death,” both teams seek a fruitful start at the Parc des Princes, while pool opponents RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir clash in Germany:
The Red Devils are hoping to repeat the result from their only previous trip to this venue in March 2019; United trailed their then opponents 2-0 in the last 16 following a dismal opening leg at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford’s 90th-minute penalty sealed a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture to put them through on away goals.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side sit 14th in the Premier League after losing two of their opening four domestic fixtures. PSG suffered defeat in their opening two Ligue 1 matches but have since put together a string of five straight wins to climb up to second in the standings.
The Parisians won’t take their billing as favorites for granted after the surprise that struck when these teams last met, though there’s ample pressure on both clubs to make a positive start.
What TV Channel is PSG-Manchester United on?
Manchester United are steep underdogs for their visit to PSG, which will be broadcast on Galavision at 3 p.m. ET. You can live stream Champions League matches on fuboTV.
Rashford, 22, is set to be a key figure in attack for United upon his return to Paris, particularly after Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News reported Edinson Cavani had not travelled with the rest of the squad. The deadline-day signing has started training with his new club but won’t get to debut against former employers PSG, for whom he scored a club-record 200 goals.
The more surprising absence for United is centre-back Harry Maguire, who has endured a rough patch in form for club and country of late. The $97 million signing failed to impress during United’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before the international break but was then sent off for England when they lost 1-0 to Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
That being said, Solskjaer was pleased for his club captain after he scored an equaliser in Saturday’s 4-1 romp over Newcastle United:
That scoreline flattered to deceive considering three of United’s goals came in the final five minutes, while PSG were fully deserving of their 4-0 thrashing at Nimes on Friday.
Thomas Tuchel fielded mostly a second-string lineup but extended his side’s win streak, with Kylian Mbappe getting on the score sheet twice:

Tuesday’s hosts will be without midfielders Marco Verratti and Leandro Paredes, but Angel Di Maria is available for the European contest against his old club. Ander Herrera could also start against former employers United due to absences in midfield, while Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer may miss out due to injury.
Although Cavani’s poetic return to Paris will not come to fruition, United may hope to hand a debut to another of their deadline-day recruits, Alex Telles, at left-back.
Solskjaer faces an uphill struggle in sealing another giant-slaying in Paris, with United facing the most difficult task of their Group H plight straight off the bat.
